Howdy everyone, just to report on a few pics on today's diving. We went down to Littlehampton this morning with John Costa and Greg Holmes. Decided to go and have a look at Bognor on the low tide and found a few fish in the holes, but not that much around. The vis was good and the water was very warm.  After leaving Bognor we made our way to Black Ledge - 35 to 40ft of water with 6-7m vis. Started to see shoaling bass straight away and managed to plug a few 2-4 pounders.  After finishing at the ledge, we moved onto Kingmere rocks - conditions were perfect with a slight tide drifting down the ledge we started to spot a few good bass in the holes, which took us by surprise and ended up losing a few good opportunities. Greg nailed the first big boy - a 7-8 pounder and then proceeded to shoot another 7 pounder straight afterwards. I wasn't having much luck with the big ones - seeing them almost every down but always being in the wrong position.
Coincidently it was Greg's turn to handle the boat and on my particular drift I ended up on the bottom at 42ft staring face to face with a 10-12 pounder stuck in a hole! Unfortunately he too eluded me! Stunned by his size, I couldn't pull the trigger. I was watching him drift into the haze so I decided to return to the surface. Just as I turned around, a big shoal of 25-30 fish swam past and I managed to bag one of the average ones with my Rob Allen 80. The spear hit him just behind the head and must have damaged his spine as it didn't come out the other side, but the barb did open under the skin. I pulled him up and grabbed him and realised I had a lunker! Turned out to be 14lbs on the dot, althoug he was very skinny in the stomach area. I'm sure he might have gone more had he eaten a bit more! Anyway, just to fill you in, we saw loads more big fish on the edge of our vis but as the tide slacked they disappeared completely.
We returned to another shallow section of reef close to Bognor and took another 6 fish for the pot and then returned to port.  All in all a great day out and would suggest anybody interested in big fish, make a turn down that side. I hope the day was as successful for everybody else and good diving to you all!  Colin  PS. Sorry Dave!
