Hi LIC
LIC; Check-out http://www.portland-port.co.uk/pha_leisure_forms.htm for rules and regs about Portland diving.
Titus, crackin Bass. You are always popping up with class fish.
Colin, Andrew MacLennan, David Payne, Werner launched on Saturday from Hayling. Joao, kick Colins butt as we were waiting for you and Colin realised he had not confirmed where and when with you.
Sea was like glass. Colin and David headed into the Solent fishing various marks on the way to Isle of Wight.
We headed right checking out likely places on the way to Selsey. Found 3 nice wrecks. One out deeper held a big shoal of bass but I was under the impression it may be protected so Andrew did a qwik bomb down, had 1 fish out the shoal and we moved on. Later we found the protected wreck so could in fact have continued diving it. Next time.
We drifted Selsey looking for the sand patches that hold the flatfish. No luck.Viz 6m on the bottom.
Then we headed 20 km out to the Ouwers. Hectic currents out there with 3 – 40m drop offs. Vis bad so we headed off to the McNab Tower far out off the IOW. A few bream bass about. I saw a 10 pounder. It’s a difficult place to dive as there is a small concrete ledge at 10m them it drops off to a 20m bottom. The bottom was stirred up with the currents.
Next we headed out to IOW and met up with Colin n David. They had a few bass and were crabbing. Hopping west on IOW we checked out a few great clay ledge areas and drifted some boulder stretches, there were caves one could swim but not much fish around. David had a massive conger and Andrew popped up with 2 nice plaice.
Headed back into the Solent to hunt the stringweed and get some lobsters.
A very pleasant day with plaice, bass, bream, cuttlefish, lobsters and crabs.
Cheers Paul
